I am pleased to offer here, a quality tintype/tin type. in a rarer size and presentation. It is a full plate size, measuring 9" by 7". Most tintypes we come across are the much smaller 6th plate size, and occasionally a quarter plate size.
The subject of the photograph is a late Victorian, or Edwardian woman. I am basing this on the style of clothes, jewelry and hair. I estimate the age of the piece as being from the 1870's or 1880's.
The picture is entirely hand colored (somewhat rare) and her dress appears to be black velvet. She is wearing gold earrings and an amethyst brooch at her throat.
The woman herself has a patrician look and of course she is not smiling, as was the custom at the time.
The piece is in good vintage condition with a very slight bend at the top left corner. There is some fine scratching. It would look lovely framed and displayed in your antiquarian home. Instant ancestors.
