This fabulous portrait miniature dates to the 19th Century and is French in origin. It is a Limoges enamel on copper portrait miniature.
The miniature painting is of a maiden with brown or auburn long hair, and she is wearing a red almost turban style hat. You see her porcelain like shoulders and just a hint of her silver and purple gown. The portrait is signed with the initials of the enamel artist. It looks like FF.
The painting is housed in an elaborate gilt bronze rectangular frame. The frame has a patterned frieze border and the top has leaves with crossed torches. Very French. There is a deep green velvet background and four rosettes. The back has a small ring for hanging and a French floral fabric.
The portrait has an approximate 2 1/4" diameter and the frame measures 4 1/4" by 5", including the top frieze. It is in overall fine antique condition, with a few very minor wear spots on the velvet. Just a gorgeous example of fine French art from the 19th Century.
