What an adorable little soldier. The young lad is dressed in a soldiers uniform. Civil War? - The tintype dates to the 1860's or 1870's. The boy looks to be about four or five years old. Tucked into his striped sash is a sword and he is carrying a rifle, - toy I presume. His uniform has shiny brass buttons and he has on a great hat.
The tintype image is quarter plate size, measuring about 4 1/2" by 3 1/2". It is housed in a lovely deep brown leather case.
The case has a central embossed swirl design on both front and back cover and rope like gold painted trim along the sides. It closed with an intact latch. The inside cover is an embossed red velvet.
The tintype is in good condition, with some slight emulsion loss on the sides, not affecting the boy image. The case is in very good antique condition, with I believe a repaired spine.
