This delightful and very useful antique shelf dates to the latter part of the 19th Century and was most likely made in England or France. Papier mache items were very popular at that time period, and Asian themes were often used.
This shelf is meant to be hung in a corner and has two shelves to display your treasured objects. It has wonderful scenes depicting Japanese gentleman and ladies dressed in all their finery. Two birds, a fish and a fan also appear at the top of the shelf. The subtle use of gold and orange paint against the black background creates a wonderful display.
The shelf can be folded flat for mailing and storage; making it quite convenient.
The shelf is 14 3/4" high, 11 1/2" wide when fully opened. The top shelf has a depth of 4" and the bottom shelf has a depth of 5".
It is in good antique condition with almost no wear to the paint or lacquer.
