This is a magnificent set made of .99 silver (almost pure silver, and higher than sterling which is .925). It was manufactured in Korea, possibly by the prestigious Korea Cloisonné Art Company. Several Korean firms deal in similar enamel and 990 silver, and the set doesn't bear a manufacturer's identification, so this set can date anywhere between the 1940's and 1980's.
The set consists of a covered sugar, covered creamer, sugar spoon and tray. They are all hallmarked 99 Silver.
The covered creamer measures 4" high including its lid. It measures 4" handle to spout and has a 1 7/8" base diameter. It is covered in the most gorgeous shade of guilloche blue enamel and has purple, yellow and green flowers on both sides. the finial, spout and handle are silver with some chase work on the handle. I found one tiny spot or dent on the cover, hardly noticeable, but mentioned just for accuracy. I consider the set to be in close to pristine condition.
The covered sugar bowl measures 4" high including the cover. It measures 5" handle to handle and has a 2" base diameter. It has the same fine enamel cloisonné work as the creamer. There is an indentation in the lid for the matching spoon. the piece looks to be in mint condition.
The spoon is 5 1/4" long. It is mostly silver with some blue enamel work on the top. It too is in mint condition.
The tray measures 8" by 4 3/4" and has four ball feet. It has a beautifully scalloped border with blue enamel work in between the swirled designs. It is in good condition, with some tarnish showing near one of the feet on the underside. I have not endeavored to polish the set since many customers would prefer the slight patina that has been built up.
All the pieces fit nicely into its original presentation box. The box is a maroon colored velvet with a white velvet interior. There is a hinged lid and silver colored clasp. The box measures 10 1/2" by 7" and is 4 1/2" high. It is in good condition, with a spotless interior, and only minimal spots of wear to the velvet top.
The total silver weight of the six piece set is just slightly over 20 troy ounces. It is truly a rare and remarkable work of art. I have seen similar Korean sets priced at about double my asking price, but i was fortunate enough to acquire this reasonably, so I'm passing on the opportunity to obtain this fantastic set at a bargain price.
