This is a wonderful object that came out of an estate in Naples Florida. It is a 19th Century belt buckle hand carved in China.
The buckle is made of jade, one side of which is a light to medium shade of green, while the reverse is black jade.
The buckle measures 2 3/4" east to west and 1 3/4" north to south. It is about 3/8" thick. It has carvings of what looks like two bird heads, one on either side and there is a small bale on top with a small hole and the center is cut out. There are some incised designs on each side and the bottom edge is scalloped.
I have never come across a piece like this and I believe it to be quite rare. It is a wonderful object for a collector of Chinese antiquities. It is in fine antique condition.
