this is a rare and unusual Vandermark art glass compote from my private collection. I have been collecting Vandermark since the early 1980's and have never seen another piece like this one.
The compote has a clear base and a top that is both frosted and smooth glass. The outer portion of the bowl is frosted clear glass with a pretty pink border which is textured, as though cake frosting were applied. The inside of the bowl is clear glass with a pulled feather pattern of pink and blue. A very pretty and practical item, this ca be used to serve candy, fruit, etc.
The Vandermark Company was started in 1972 by Jerry Vandermark. After his passing, the studio was taken over by Doug Merritt, currently its primary artisan. The studio has exhibited in many major museums, including the Smithsonian and Wheaton Museum of Glass, and was initially best known for its Tiffany style creations, although it subsequently branched out into several more modernistic designs.
This piece is signed Vandermark with a pattern number and dated 1982. It is in fine vintage condition, wit no cracks, chips, etc. The piece has a top diameter of 8 1/4" and a base diameter of 3 3/8". It is slightly over 5" tall.
