This is such a fabulous and unusual necklace. It is mid to late 19th Century, and made of 10 karat yellow gold, not hallmarked, but carefully acid tested. It contains seed pearls and one small amethyst stone.
The necklace is 14" in length, but a jeweler could always add a few links to lengthen it. The chain has two tiny seed pears about 4 1/2" down from the top. Then there is a middle section of three textured gold leaves with a seed pearl grade style pendant. It contains 13 pearls. One is missing from the next to the last row, but it does not compromise the design. I believe it is meant to resemble grapes. This section measures about 1" wide and 1 1/4" in length.
Below the first bunch of grapes is a second smaller piece, consisting of two textured gold leaves with a round approximately 3mm amethyst stone. Below that hangs "the grapes" made of six seed pearls, one missing from the top row.
All in all a beautiful example of Victoriana at its finest. The total Total weight of the piece is 4.1 grams. Except for the two missing pearls, the condition is excellent.
