This stunning antique purse comes from Europe, most likely Germany, and was made in the 19th Century.
It has a stunning silver frame, which tests at least 800 silver and has hallmarks which I am not familiar with. The body of the purse is all hand stitched petit point. The design shows two figures against a brown background on one side and a duck and bird on the other side. There are also many flowers embroidered throughout. There is a renaissance feel to the design.
The frame is pierced with five central cupid figures and a cupid figure on either side. Both sides of the frame are the same. There is a silver colored chain, which may have been added.
The clasp is a push button and the lining is brown satin with two pockets. The purse measures 9" by 7 1/2" without the chain handle.
Condition: The frame is fine with a working clasp. I have not polished it as some people prefer the original patina. The lining is intact. The color on the embroidery is subtle, but I believe the colors were meant to be pale, so little fading has occurred. Part of the material has come undone from the frame and needs to be reattached with some thread and heavy needle. I am not a very competent sewer and leave that to the new owner. I have priced in accordingly. Don't miss out on this opportunity to own a true 19th Century treasure.
