This wonderful 19th Century case was made to hold calling cards or visiting cards. It is made of mother of pearl and abalone and most likely was manufactured in England.
The case, which measures 4 1/8" by 3 1/8" is conveniently large enough to hold today's standard business card. The mother of pearl on both sides has a finely etched floral design. The front shows a gorgeous carved bouquet of flowers done in the pearl. This is highlighted by a diamond shaped abalone border.
The reverse side of the case has an inlaid rectangular abalone design. there is a hinged lid with push button closure and a metal plaque on top for a monogram. It is lined in red velvet.
What an elegant way to carry your own cards, or display in your home. This piece is in fine antique condition
