From Japan during the Meiji period, 1880-1910, comes this beautiful hair ornament. It is known as a kushi comb and was worn by Geisha's.
The piece is made of celluloid and is decorated by hand, using lacquer made of finely ground gold and other materials. This stunning design is primarily floral but does contain two arrow quivers . The colors are various shades of gold and a hint of turquoise, black and white.
The piece measures 3 3/4" by 2 1/2". It is in wonderful condition and looks as if it was hardly used. It would look wonderful with today's hairstyles.
