This very unusual brooch, dating to the early 19th Century, is made of tested 12 to 14 Karat yellow gold. Sometimes referred to as a fichu brooch, this one does not contain your typical central hair compartment.
The brooch, or pin, has a central carved coral rectangle which is surrounded by a gold rim which is heavily embossed. The outer borders are made up of eight carved coral ovals. All the coral, a deep orange in color, has pretty leaf carvings.
The pin measures 1" by 3/4". It closes with an extended c style clasp and weighs 5.2 grams. It is in wonderful antique condition.
