This is a very nice old Sheffield Plate Jug. It comes with a card from Marshall Field & Company, Antique Silver Collection. The handwritten card states "A beautiful Old Sheffield Plate Jug. Plain, circular shaped body, with tapering sides, has bead mounts, a wood mounted applied scroll handle, a hinged cover surmounted by an urn finial, and is supported on a low pedestal base. Made in England, circa 1790." The card is dated 12/78. 7 1/2" tall, 7 1/4" from spout to handle, just under 3 1/2" diameter base. It is in excellent condition with a small crack near the bottom of the handle (common on old wood). Could use a light polishing. Could be used as a hot water jug or large cream jug.
Wonderful on your serving tray! Sure to elevate the atmosphere of your Tea Time!
