A popular series for young readers aimed at girls. In the tradition of The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew, Judy Bolton was an intrepid teenage sleuth. The ads for the series stated that each book was "based on something that actually happened," and Margaret Sutton did indeed incorporate events from her life into each book.
The Judy Bolton Mystery Series was produced by Grosset & Dunlap from 1932 with the release of THE VANISHING SHADOW, until 1967 with the release of the final book, THE SECRET OF THE SAND CASTLE. The titles were constantly reprinted and G & D rarely, if ever, changed the Copyright date information from printing to printing. One of the safest ways to date a volume which has its dust cover is by the list on the inside front flap. This particular book is the 1953 reprint of the 1933 title.
