Here is a marvelous art glass bowl by Gary Genetti! It shows a delightful blending of pressure engraving, color blending, and cutting methods on the blown body. There is a whimsical parade of grazing cows on the upper pale rose rim, topping the pale lilac main body which sports etched pairs of lines ending in arrowhead like points at the base, and an intricate deeply cut geometric design on the bottom. Signed but not dated, this piece is in perfect keeping with other such works from this artist dating to the early 1990's.
Genetti has been designing and making glass art for nearly 30 years. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in sculpture and graphics from the University of Wisconsin in 1976. In 1978 he began his apprenticeship in a production glass studio and in 1980 established his own studio in rural Warwick, NY.
A nationally known artist, he uses skillful blowing and intricate pressure engraving to create contemporary classics in glass. He works within a developed traction of decorative Art by depicting natural subjects such as animals and floral motifs with geometric patterns on vessel forms. Presented not only in art galleries and prestigious craft venues such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show and the Smithsonian Craft Show, his work is featured in the permanent collection of the Nation al Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C.
This great piece stands 6 1/2" tall, is 7 3/4" across the rim, and just under 3" across the base. This beautiful bowl is in excellent condition with the exception of one tiny flaw which seems to be where a bubble in the glass popped. It is on the interior of the bowl , about 1/4" below the interior lip, just behind one of the cows (see image 3).
Current pieces by this artist routinely exceed $5,000 in value.
