Unsual vintage Art Deco Duette from the 1930s features two large sapphire color sugar loaf cabochons that are simply mesmerizing. The duette has a sophisticated and elegant feel to it and the sparkly baguette and clear rhinestones in silver tone metal make for a handsome very tasteful contrast. The duette separates into two clips that can be worn alone or on each side of a square neckline. We have never seen another design with these fabulous "sugar loaf" stones in a duette. They are spectacular and their use in costume jewelry is more often seen in the Art Deco period than most others. They were probably expensive and difficult to find. Probably Gripoix. Beautiful, beautiful blue color that your gaze could almost fall into.

The clips are marked "Pat 1852188 and the duette mechanism used to connect the two cllips is marked with the Patent #1798867. The patents for both of these were issued to E.A. Phinney for Edward Fuller and Son in 1932. Many Coro duette designs used these findings although there is no Coro signature on any of these three pieces.
Many top vintage designers made duettes during the 1930s to the 1950s. Most, like Boucher, Ciner, Mazer, Trifari and Polcini among others designed their own mechanisms for specific pieces, yet it would not be difficult to imagine them using the patented Phinney hardware for their own designs.

The duette measures approximately 2-1/2 x 3/4" with each clip measuring 1-1/4 x 3/4."

The workmanship on these clips is very fine. Getting those baguettes at the center to properly and reliably align is a design task in itself. The Condition of this amazing duette is Very Good/Excellent noting some age to the clear stones in spite of their being very bright and sparkly when worn.

Clips made during this time period were so beautiful and with duettes you have the lovely choice of wearing a larger pin or two separate clips, perhaps even one at a time. One at the throat, one each on long sleeves, attached to a purse or hat or to secure a scarf or shawl you will find many different and cleaver ways to wear these. They are tres chic!

Your beautiful Vintage Art Deco Duette with Sugar Loaf Cabochons will arrive in our signature gift box with silver stretch tie, ready to love or give.
