Exceptional Art Deco Dress Clip dates Ca. the 1930s and has the most vibrant, deep blue, open back rhinestones combined with an amazing, Jazz Age design filigree. The true color of the stones is the most intense hue of sapphire blue although it photographs, on our monitor a little bit to the purple side.
The clip is hand made and displays the transition from the curved designs of the Art Nouveau (around the edge design) and the transition to the geometric Art Deco (the angular geometry of the unique filigree).
The clip measures approximately 2 x 1-1/2" and has a very plain, unsigned, clip on a hinge that works properly and well. The clip is in Very Good / Excellent Condition. There is a 1/16" roughness along one of the facets on one of the navettes under magnification. With the color and sparkle of those stones, when worn, it would be difficult to stare at it long enough to try to find it. We mention it for the sake of full disclosure. The plating shows very slight evidence of age and wear, mostly at the sides of the outer edges, which may simply shine up with a little gentle buffing. Otherwise, in lovely, Excellent Condition.
The piece is unsigned. We think it may be an Art Deco take on the frilly cottage filigree work that was produced along the Rhine River. It also has gorgeous, hand-cut stones, open-backed, that were produced in the area at the time. They are all prong set. Interestingly, appears to be "gilded" in silver or white gold similar to Czech work at the time. It is quite possible that this is the only one of its kind. We have never seen another quite like it.
