Virginia Janus Cabbage Roses Yard Long Print.
This spectacular print is the work of the Victorian artist, Virginia Janus (a peer of both Paul de Longpre and Catherine Klein). It is antique, printed in 1891, one of the earliest yardlongs, and has a lovely gathering of sweet roses in a casual array. The artwork is indeed superb. This piece is truly magnificent, in its original gesso frame. The print was made for the Youth's Companion Magazine, and the lithographer was the G. H. Beuk Company of New York. The print is a chromolithograph, and all the color layers align in perfect register. It is in FINE condition without fading or blemishes. The frame is also near fine, with a tiny gesso chip on one corner, non glare glass. In short, just amazing and beautiful as can be. Overall size is 13 x 42.5 inches, perfect for Mother's Day, or a birthday.
