Pink Roses Antique Print Print Annie Burt. This oh so gorgeous print is by the Victorian artist Annie Taylor Burt. It is a half yard long study of La France Roses. The roses have soft heavy head, typical of old antique non-hybridized garden roses, and no doubt had a sweet perfume to match. The colors in pastel pink hues are are just beautiful. In Victorian times, the pink rose symbolized that the bearer was An Ambassador of Love, very sweet. This print is a chromolithograph, and the color layers align in perfect register. It was made as an Art Supplement to the New York Recorder on July 15, 1894, and was printed by the Knapp Lithographic Company of New York. Please excuse any glass glare whitish lines/reflections in the photographs.
The print has a faux suede mat that has a wonderful soft texture and blends well with the lighter shades of the rose petals. All is housed in a composite gold tone wood frame with scrollwork embellishments that compliment the print perfectly. The frame scrolls have a dusted finish that soften the gold hues. Overall size is 15.25 x 23 inches, ready to hang. The print has a little handling wear at the right side, the mat is in fine condition, as is the frame. It has plexiglass that has a few small rubs, no really seen when hanging, but mentioned for accuracy. It can easily be replaced with glass if you desire.
