Antique Roses Perfume Print Paul de Longpre Dabrooks Cosmetics Chromolithograph Antique Victorian Frame
Dabrooks Perfume Roses Paul de Longpre Yard Long Panel.
This one of a kind piece is an antique perfume countertop display piece for Dabrooks Perfumes. The artist was the French Victorian watercolorist Paul de Longpre. Depicted is a glorious, freshly-gathered bouquet of American Beauty cabbage roses. Along the bottom are punched slots where the old perfume vials would have been held in with a band. Several varieties of perfume were offered by Dabrooks, and these little bottles would have been about three inches tall.
The print is mounted on heavy board stock, and is a chromolithograph from the 1905 period. Store dealers would have propped this up on their countertop to sell their wares. The print is housed in a period antique Victorian gesso frame with scroll detail. It still retains its old hand rolled heavy glass. The frame is in VG condition. The print is also in VG condition, with bright unfaded colors. It has some wear, mostly confined to the perfume vial slots. FYI, there is a slot just after the D in Dabrooks, another top right of the stems, two more above the far right rose, and 18 more slots below the bouquet. The overall size is large at 19.75 x 29.5 inches, often called a panel or yard long.
This piece comes from the personal collection of Nancy C Hall, the author of the book, The Life and Art of Paul de Longpre. It is signed on the back by Nancy, stating its provenance from her collection. Please note: we ship either FedEx or USPS Parcel Post as a less inexpensive choice.
