Paul de Longpre Sweet Tokens Roses Print.
This wonderful print is by the French Victorian artist Paul de Longpre (b. 1855, d. 1911). It is entitled Sweet Tokens, and has several varieties of cabbage roses: Jacqueminot, La France (his favorite), and Marechal Niel. This piece also includes de Longpre's signature bumblebees. It is signed lower left, and was made in 1894 as a supplement to the Chicago Tribune newspaper. It is a half yardlong and the color layers of this chromolithograph align in perfect register.
The print has a dark chocolate softly textured faux suede mat that sets the roses off to perfection, and echoes their softness. The burnished gold composite frame has a scrolled edge that also compliments the ensemble nicely. Overall size is 15 x 23 inches, with glass, ready to hang. The print is in good condition with some wrinkles and a few professional watercolor touchups, mostly on the left side background. There is a small crease at the lower right margin, not real noticeable, but mentioned for accuracy. The frame is also in VG condition. Please note: we ship either FedEx or USPS Parcel Post as a less inexpensive choice. Ruby Lane's postage calculator doesn't always show Parcel Post, so do inquire if you would like your parcel sent at the less expensive rate.
