This amazing cat engraving (print) is by the Victorian artist Leon Huber. It dates to the 1880's, and what a scene it is! Entitled "Catastrophe" (Katastrophe). It is a spectacular study with lots of animation. Several cats ponder over an aquarium with goldfish, after they've knocked over a vase of spring flowers with lilacs. The faces on these cats and kittens are just beautiful, so much more than the photograph shows. Take a look, each one is so curious on how to go about getting the fish! I've sharpened the closeup photo, but again, the camera's eye can only capture so much, and this one is just incredible in person.
The engraver is Richard Bong, and this was manufactured in Berlin. It is on a medium weight paper, the image mint, the accompanying borders in VG condition. Ready for framing, it is just superb! Overall size with the margins is 10.5 x 15.5 inches.
