Early Floppy R John Wright doll Approximately 18" tall
I read in one of the books that there were only 55 of these floppy hillbilly dolls made and most were men. So this is a very rare early doll. I have no idea how many might have survived. This is the only one I have ever seen. She would have been made in 1977. She has silk screened-printed eyes and was produced in an unnumbered edition.
She has the very large hands as all the early dolls had and also large feet. On back at the neck there is one small hole on the head and it appears white in the pictures as that is the stuffing. On the doll's right foot top the felt is wearing thin. No hole yet but wanted to mention it. The felt used to make these dolls was very thin. Wright used two different colors of felt when making the body and the feet. I'm sure was just using scraps.
The dress has some fade to it but again she looks like an old lady in an old outfit. She has gray and brown hair. You definitely see how Steiff influenced him with the seam down the face and it's not even which again gives it character. If you have any questions, please write me.
