If you owned and wore this smashing two piece velvet soutache trimmed dress, you were really styling! Chances are you were in a high brow type profession that required cutting edge, designer attire. The attention getting features of this suit include the huge shoulder pads that measure 3/4" thick with lots of soutache braid attached to the shoulders, upper portion and cuffs of sleeves and double gathered peplum. The jacket is accented with a 1" button encrusted with rhinestones with black stone in the center. I would call this a toreador type style jacket. The matching skirt is dirndl (gathered) style, gathered with slide in hook waistband closure and 7" nylon zipper. Both pieces are fully lined with what appears to be black acetate. A camisole top would complete the picture although is not included. It looks to have been a sample, based on the labels on the inside of the skirt.
The measurements are as follows:
JACKET *18" across shoulders, from seam to seam *16 1/2" across waistline from seam to seam, doubled makes for 33" waist *20 1/2" across back from seam to seam at bustline, doubled makes a 41" bust *16 1/2" from back neck seam to waistline seam *3 1/2" top peplum embellished with soutache *6 1/4" second peplum 17 1/4" sleeve length from underarm seam to cuff
SKIRT *32" waist *44" hips *24 1/2" length *6 1/2" kick pleat
This suit is in excellent preowned condition; the top of the kickpleat was torn and professionally repaired and not obvious. There is one small stone missing from the button that was almost missed. Being velvet it would benefit from being either steamed, or professionally cleaned, however is certainly wearable in its present condition.
