Being offered is a men's tie that was sold in "Mellone's Store, No. Syracuse, NY" with the label "The Imperial by BEAU GESTE". No doubt there is a connection between the movie BEAU GESTE and this designer.
The movie BEAU GESTE centers on three Geste brothers, focusing on the trials and tribulations they experienced by being in the French Foreign Legion. As one critic put it, "Beau Geste is one of the "imperial epics" of the late 1930s, being a movie in which "the civilized order is embodied by a military outpost."
This is a stunning tie! Brownish rust color is accented with grey/blue and apricot squares, and feathers. The first 14 1/2" of the tie is basically rust with the design, then 24 1/2" of gold patterned fabric, with the final 10 1/2" matching the rust color with designs, giving the total length 49". The width is 4 1/2". Being silky and smooth, the fabric could be silk, or possibly acetate. Tag makes no mention of content.
It is in perfect preowned condition and a great example of style in this era!
