Here is a book that is a compilation of the best living authors (at the time, 1942) works, choosing their favorite masterpiece(s), and give their reasons why. The work chosen may be a story, essay, drama, humor, poetry or one of several other topics. The book contains 1,175 pages, ten chapters, 93 authors and over 150 chosen best. Many of the authors that were the best at the time, 1942, are now heralded as being legends. Some of the best (my pick) include Sinclair Lewis, John Steinbeck, Carl Sandburg, Ogden Nash, and soooo many others.
Edited by Whit Burnett, it was published by The Dial Press, New York, 1942. It is hard cover and remnants of the dust cover (torn into 2 pieces). The cover is in excellent condition, with the exception being the back cover corners bumped. The second page is torn away from the third page at the binding, but attached to preceding page. There's slight yellowing of pages due to age. This is a great coffee table read!
