Elgin American Watch Company is best known for their watches and timepieces. Having been in existence for a long time, they also made a few other items, such as compacts, cigarette cases, lockets and pendants. This cute little picture album is hallmarked Elgin American Mfg. Co. 1830, which I'm sure is not the date, but the serial number.
Engraved with the initials TBM, this little photo case front is textured basket weave, and back is plain. It measures 2" x 1 1/2" and the interior can house a picture on the inside front and back covers, as well as an insert that holds two more, in oval frames. It does contain 3 pictures, however one or two of them might have been in the album in an effort to show the buyer what it would look like with pictures. There is a little ring at the top of the album but no jump ring. It snaps tightly just as it did the day it was new.
This little album is simply delightful! There was a little spot in the lower left hand corner on the front. I don't polish jewelry or most items, but using Simichrome polish on this piece has it shining like a new penny! Want a subtle way to show off your family at the big party? Put this on a long gold chain and WOW what a great pendant!
All points considered, it looks to be from the 1920s and sure is cute!
