At the time, the Stanley 'Pistol Grip' saw sharpener was the favorite of tool users the world over. Designed so that the saw teeth are in plain view when the saw is set, it is easy and smooth to use. The capacity for this No. 42 is 18 gauge and thinner, having 14 points or less to the inch. It is well constructed and is stamped on the inside of the handle Stanley No. 42. It measures 5" in height, 6" in length and approximately 2" wide.
During the great depression my grandfather worked in the navy yards in Washington, D.C. as a tool and die maker. His tools were very special to him. This was one of many my family has, and we'd like to see someone else enjoy some of them. The condition is as it was found and probably hasn't been used in many years. Short of damaging it, it is felt that the new owner can do as they wish.
