Here is a wonderful gentleman's travel grooming, shaving kit, with accessories housed in butterscotch bakelite containers. The real focal point is the Gillette Shawmut razor, and is the reason for the first picture being the razor, along with the following description: The razor has never been used, with protective cardboard lining the container, as well as cardboard separators between the razor and the blade. The razor is heavy gold plating with polished finish. As can be seen in the pictures, the blade slips onto the razor and rests on 3 pegs. The top portion is then placed over the blade and screwed in place by turning the stem just under the top. An advertisement from 1920 gives a description of this great razor, along with a price of $1.00 !
Concerning the other parts to this travel grooming set, it includes 9 pieces, including a toothbrush holder and razor container made of butterscotch bakelite. The small comb is also bakelite. There's two cuticle tools, mirror, shoe brush and glass bottle with bakelite top, and also appears to be unused. A leather zippered case holds this set.
The case shows age with the stitching coming apart in spots, along with some of the leather flaking. The zipper works fine. There's no toothbrush in the bakelite container. The mirror and finger nail tools show oxidation, from age. The brush with natural bristles looks to be the only item that was used. All pieces of bakelite are in perfect condition.
This is a real find!
