Being presented here is a wonderful example of folk art. It is a book of sorts, 91 pages with newspaper articles pasted into a ledger that states on the binding “LEDGER 5D.” This is by far one of the most unique and interesting item I have for sale. Find out what life was really like in the 1880s!
Written in the style of 1880-81, (two articles have these dates in them) the verbiage is very eloquent and flowery. Jam packed with poems, stories, picture and anecdotes, the articles are about life in the 1880s; children, families, medical afflictions, daily living, holidays and lifestyles. The articles range from humorous to philosophical. The first few pages is a table of contents, alphabetized. The letter I has the following articles: In the Barn, Innocent Inexperience, In the Snow, Is it You?, and Intelligent Parrot.
Having been constructed 135 plus years ago, it is in remarkable condition. The cover has a few flaws, as pictured. Every article has the glue intact. It looks to have had a few pages intentionally cut out.
