Stunning Alfredo Barbini Murano Sommerso Mid Century Art Glass Vase made in Venice, Italy . Ribs of clear and ruby glass form a visually modern aesthetic shape. The measurements are approximately 9 1/2" tall, 4 3/4" wide across the top, 6" wide across the widest section of the body and a 3 1/2" base.
The original foil Barbini label is still attached. It reads "Venetian Made by Alfredo Barbini For Weil Ceramics and Glass Murano". Weil Ceramics & Glass Company was located on Fifth Avenue in New York City and carried quality glass, pottery and porcelain.
This vase is featured in the book "Glass A-Z by David Shotwell, page 30, however, he has it attributed to Barovier & Toso which would appear to be incorrect.
Condition: Excellent. Absolutely amazing for a piece that is at least 60 years old. It has been lovingly cared for. The only thing to mention is a very minute rough spot on the edge of the base where it would sit on the shelf which I can only feel when I did the touch touch test.
