Beautiful, antique, hand painted, Royal Rudolstadt Chocolate Pot. The front is decorated with a well painted spray of blue and lavender flowers with golden centers. I believe the flowers are asters. Each flower is outlined with gilt trim. The pot and the cover are heavily embossed with a Rococo style scroll design which really makes this chocolate pot special. . The pouring spout appears to be the head of an animal when viewed straight on. The handle is detailed with a lovely scroll design and decorated with gold. The cover also has a golden handle with tiny flower buds painted on either side. 7 5/16" tall without the cover, 8 3/4" all to the top of the cover, 6 1/2" wide including the spout and the handle, approximately 4 2/8 in the center. This is marked with the RW Crown mark used between 1887 and 1918. Most pieces with this embossed design are from the 1800's. Royal Rudolstadt The pottery has been located in Rudolstadt, Thuringia, Germany, from 1720 to the present. Over the years, it was owned by a series of partnerships and became known as N. Y. Rudolstadt.
Condition: The Chocolate Pot is in excellent condition, free from cracks, chips or crazing. There is gold loss on both handles. There is also some purple paint faintly showing on one of the blank panels and this was done during the hand painting and is mentioned for the sake of accuracy. The inside rim is has a small interior chip which is not visible with the cover on. The cover has a sizable piece missing from the inner edge that fits inside the pot. It does not show when it is place on the pot and it does not affect the function. I have white arrows marking the missing piece in the photographs.
