Antique Leaf Page from Foxe's Book of Martyrs. This is page 933 from Foxe's Book of Martyrs published in 1794 by Hogg. Printed across the top of the engraving is "Engraved for the Rev. Dr. Writght's Modernized and Improved Edition of Fox's Original Book of Martyrs." This engraving is 15" tall and 9 3/4" wide.

The first image shows Jerom of Prague (a Primitive Martyr) going to be Burnt to Death (near the City of Constance in Bohemia) for holding the Doctrines of Wickliff, in the Year 1416 - after which his Ashes were cast into the River Rhine. The second image shows The Cruel Martyrdom of Sir John Oldcastle, Lord Cobham, during the Reign of Henry V in the Year 1417.

CONDITION: I think the page leaf is in great condition considering the page is 218 years old and was torn from a book. There are some light discolorations and a few foxing spots but nothing very distracting or damaging. The photographs are large so you can see the small details and edges when using the magnifying option. It will still be shipped in a flat box in acid free paper. The age of paper is not conducive to rolling this for tube shipping . Please email me with any questions.
