This is a Kobe celluloid charm. The celluloid charms were made in 1920's-1930's. They were made in a variety of characters and various colours, including mixed shades. Most represent traditional Japanese images. This is Daruma or Dharma. (Japanese traditional doll modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen sect of Buddhism.) What they all have in common is a tiny circular, and usually brown face with eyes that pop in and out. The celluloid charm measures 1/2 inch. It has its original thread.
