The decorators of this lovely Davenport footed dish were certainly artists. The shoulder had a light putty color ground (which may have a pink cast in some of the photos) with lovely gilding. The center has a hand-painted floral bouquets.
Printed Davenport mark on bottom. This mark is not often found, as it includes "Manufacturer to their Majesties" and was in use 1830-40. A painted "388" is probably a decorator's mark or pattern number.
English, ca. 1835-40.
Size: Approximately 9 3/8" long, 7 3/8" wide, 2" high
Condition: Excellent. No chips, cracks or repairs.
Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, returns are no problem if I happen to miss anything.
