This cobalt blue decanter has gilt decoration of grapes and leaves around the neck, with the inscription "Lisbon" on the front. Color is a deep cobalt, and is blown with a raised bottom.
"Lisbon" was probably in reference to a sherry or other wine originating, or in the manner of Portuguese wine (akin to the naming of gin "Holland"), and you can find English silver bottle tags for this as well.
Unmarked, probably English ca. 1820
Size: Approximately 9.5" high, 3.875" bottom diameter.
Condition: No stopper. Worn gilding, particularly on "Lisbon". No chips, cracks or repairs.
Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, returns are no problem if I happen to miss anything.
