This blue Staffordshire transfer soup plate showing Byland Abbey in Yorkshire was made by Knight, Elkin & Co. as part of their "Cartouche" series (a plate is illustrated in Coysh). The scene shows a couple in front of the ruins of the abbey. The border is a typical floral.
Printed pattern mark on back. English, ca 1835.
Size: Approximately 9.375" diameter.
Condition: No chips, cracks or repairs.
Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, returns are no problem if I happen to miss anything.
