These fruit baskets allowed grapes or other fruit to drain, and the air circulation prevented mold. These fruit baskets are rare survivors, even more so when they retain their trays.
This one has a central motif of floral bouquet, as well as a floral border on both pieces. Glaze is pearlware, over a white/light cream body. No maker's marks, but possibly Davenport. English, ca. 1835.
Size: Tray approximately 9.875" long, 7.5" wide ; basket approximately 10.25" long, 6.375"wide, 3.5" high.
Condition: Excellent. A couple spots of glaze roughness around tray edge you can feel, glaze wear to bottom of tray. No chips, cracks or repairs.
Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, returns are no problem if I happen to miss anything.
