This cup and saucer set has a "Japan" pattern, based on Asian ceramics, popular during the early 19th century. The cup has a bell shape with a tall loop handle. Both pieces are richly decorated in cobalt, reds and gilt. Saucer well seems a bit large for cup base, but at this time one saucer was supplied for use with both the tea and the coffee cups, leading to this discrepancy.
Both pieces have red painted Spode with pattern number 3615, dating this circa 1820.
Size: Saucer diameter approximately 6"; cup 2 5/8" high to rim; 3 1/4" to top of handle.
Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, returns are no problem if I happen to miss anything.
