The pattern on this ironstone blue transfer handle-less cup and saucer is "Cologne", a typical romantic scene with a gothic structure by the water with viewers on the shore. What sets this set apart is that it has maker's printed mark as well as the mark for the Philadelphia importer who ordered them.
Printed mark for J & G Alcock including pattern name; also have importer's mark: "Wright & Pike, North 3rd st., Philadelphia"
English, ca. 1840s
Size: Saucer approximately 5 ½" diameter, cup 2 ¾" high, 4" top diameter
Condition: Tiny rim flake on cup. No other chips, cracks or repairs.
Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, returns are no problem if I happen to miss anything.
