The pattern on these ironstone blue transfer plates is "Cologne", a typical romantic scene with a gothic structure by the water with viewers on the shore. What sets this set apart is that while all eight have the maker's printed mark, four of them also have a mark for the Philadelphia importer who ordered them.
Printed mark for J & G Alcock including pattern name. Four also have importer's mark: "Wright & Pike, North 3rd st., Philadelphia"
English, ca. 1840s
Size: Approximately 9 ½" diameter.
Condition: Very good. Two have one small edge chip. No other chips, cracks or repairs.
Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, returns are no problem if I happen to miss anything.
