This painted tin oval bowl or bread tray was probably decorated in the mid-2oth century.
The design, repeated on both sides, is of two gilt cornucopias with fruit. There are color washes over the fruit. The bottom has a stenciled mark for Walter Smith.
What made this a bit unusual is that while the revival of decorated tinware in this period was a popular activity for women, there were not many men doing this work. I haven't been able to find any information about this decorator.
American, mid 20th century.
Size: Approximately 13" long, 6" wide, 3 1/4" high.
Condition: Good. Some wear and light rust (on bottom).
Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, returns are no problem if I happen to miss anything.
