I have always found these baskets fascinating - they seem difficult to manufacture, and remarkable that they have survived. This Spode example is larger than I usually find, and retains its original under tray.
The body is creamware, and is decorated with a distinctive enameled border of rust/brown/orange with cobalt blue ovals.
Impressed "SPODE" and painted 1786 on both pieces. Circa 1810-20.
Size: Basket approximately 11.875" long, 7.125" wide, 5" high. Tray approximately 12.75" long, 10.375" wide
Condition: Very good. Some flakes to enamel on basket borders, overall flaking on tray border enameling. No chips, cracks or repairs.
Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, returns are no problem if I happen to miss anything.
