The design on these "stone china" plates is a swirling floral in cobalt, rust and pink with gilt accents.
Both plates has the blue printed "New Japan Stone" mark in use from 1833-47, as well as an impressed crown mark. A painted "5519 " with an additional is probably a pattern and/or decorator mark.
As the Spode firm evolved and changed, it became "Copeland & Garrett" during this period.
English, circa 1840
Condition: One excellent. The other with a flat chip on front (on a cobalt leaf), and staining on the back. No other chips, cracks or repairs. Size: Approximately 9" diameter.
Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, returns are no problem if I happen to miss anything.
