This beautiful deep blue soup plate has a transfer scene of the river by Windsor Castle as its central motif, with a dark irregular border of landscape and foliage. There are groups of figures on the shore, and a boat sailing on the river. Coysh shows a platter in this pattern by Clews, but with a different border (which I suspect wouldn't fit on the narrower flange of the soup plate).
Marked with the impressed Clews Warranted Staffordshire crown mark.
English, ca. 1830.
Size: Approximately 9" diameter.
Condition: Excellent. Nice shiny glaze with only slight utensil marks. No chips, cracks or repairs.
Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, returns are no problem if I happen to miss anything.
