This light-colored earthenware hexagonal platter with gadrooned edge is in Ridgway's "Asiatic Palaces" pattern. The transfer completely covers the surface, with the central scene a chinoiserie fantasy landscape, and the border a dense floral garland. The design is typical of Staffordshire transferware from the "romantic period".
Printed mark on back with maker's name and the pattern.
English, ca. 1835
Size: Approximately 19 1/8" long, 16 1/2" wide.
Condition: Very good. Utensil scratches, but not excessive. No other chips, cracks or repairs.
Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, returns are no problem if I happen to miss anything.
