This plate is decorated with a "Japan" pattern featuring a central vase with a peony on a table surface. The border has floral motifs, with all decoration accented with gilding. Colors are cobalt and orange hues.
Marked with printed backstamp used by Copeland, although in this instance it lacks the Spode and/or Copeland name as seen on other instances of this mark. I suspect this may be an earlier version of the mark, and would date this plate to the 1850s. Body appears to be a finer version of the "stone china" type.
Size: Approximately 9 3/4" diameter.
Condition: Excellent with only slight wear to gilding. No chips, cracks or repairs.
Note that I try to be conservative about condition descriptions, carefully noting any flaws. Of course, with antique items, there will be some signs of usage, and/or manufacturing defects. But overall, my customers have always been pleasantly surprised upon receiving their items, and of course, returns are no problem if I happen to miss anything.
