This is a magnificent antique French porcelain "Grand Salon" vase. This bolted baluster form vase sits upon a pedestal base. Between the body and the pedestal a gilt bronze ring with attached acanthus leaves nestle against the baluster vase base adding additional beauty and strength to the vase. The base is attached to an octagonal gold gilt on bronze base. This vase has two exceptional pieces of art work from the nineteenth century, painted by the artist Maxant. On the front, we observe a scene with Cupid whispering into a young maiden's ear. The background combines architecture and nature. The reverse side of the vase has a serene woodland scene of trees and a winding path. The scene colors give the whole piece a freshness and romanticism.. Cobalt blue background encloses the scenes and is adorned with extensive raised relief gold paste decorations of flowers, swags, beads and various other shapes. The pedestal base has a white background area on the front with flowing blue around the edges. Floral gold paste designs decorate this area. The inside of the lip has a soft cream color with the same gold paste decoration. This beautiful ornamental piece is the perfect example of the knowledge and skill of the craftsmen. This piece came from a private collection and is exceptional work of the nineteenth century. This vase does have an old repair on the rim and a one inch hairline. The gold painting on the inside rim is perfect on one side with a beautiful flower on the repaired side they added some gold swags. Upon close examination it is visible, but casual viewing one wouldn't know it is there. Please see pictures for condition.
