The Louwelsa line of pottery was made between the 1896 until 1924 The Louwelsa line was offered in many brown undertones with various floral and portrait depictions. This piece is just the right size to be displayed on a small table or bookshelf. It has beautiful hand painted yellow roses with green stems on the sides and is surrounded by the deep brown background that is associated with Louwelsa line. The upper rim opening is in the shape of a clover leaf giving it a nice look. IT IS RARE TO FIND ANTIQUE EARTHENWARE IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
Weller’s product was then renamed Louwelsa in 1896 by combining letters from his infant daughter’s first name, Louise, along with letters from his own family and first names respectively. This type of art pottery was one of Weller’s best sellers and eventually encompassed more than 500 different styles of bowls and vases, according to justartpottery. It was also Weller’s production of this line that led to brought art pottery to the forefront as an industry in turn of the 20th century America.
