What a beauty to behold! The design of this vase makes a definite statement. The piece has a ½" base, a bulbous body and the neck that has raised ruffles going up the side to give the appearance of flower petals. A very ornate ruffled handle is attached on one side of the body and extends across the front of the vase and attaches to the upper portion of the neck. The background of this faience piece is a warm ivory. The front of the vase has been painted with bold, bright yellow and orange nasturtiums. Green, blue and rust leaves and stems are intermingled with the flowers. Above where the handle crosses over is one lone little stem with an orange flower. On the reverse side is a smaller grouping of nasturtiums. The floral decorations have all been outlined and accented with gold making this design come to life. This vase is in excellent condition! There are no hairlines or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.

Rudolstadt was a faience factory in the Thuringia region of Germany from 1720 to about 1791. In 1854, Ernst Bohne began working in the area. From about 1887 to 1918, the New York and Rudolstadt Pottery made decorated porcelain marked with the RW and crown familiar to collectors. This porcelain was imported by Lewis Straus and Sons of New York, which later became Nathan Straus and Sons. The word Royal was included in their import mark. Collectors often call it Royal Rudolstadt. Most pieces found today were made in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century

Backstamp: Germany Crown RW in shield and Rudolstadt underneath

Measures: 12 1/2" H X 6 1/2" W
